RAM

This project was created for Jenny Holzer studio with Jenny and Hypersonic. The beam and animation on the beam are choreographed so that the text and visuals move together with (and sometimes in opposition to) the beam. Using After Effects and processing we were able to choreograph the physical 3D beam. The movements were triggered by the number and motion of people in the gallery.

This project stretched After Effects beyond what I had thought was possible. I have never been on a project where we controlled physical movements with After Effects. It was amazing to work with Hypersonic to create a system to easily do this. it was a wonderful mix of actual motion, motion graphics, art and technology.

Originally shown at Hauser and Wirth in Zurich, the beam was also shown at Bilbao Guggenheim. The photos below are from the Guggenheim where it was surrounded by human bones.
